Intro:

The following exercises introduce us to applying quarter notes (and 8th notes)
to the drum kit. Rhythms based on the quarter note are quite open. They provide
us a great place to start learning to play rhythms on the drums. Quarter note rhythms,
may appear to be simple, but are still quite popular in pop, rock , country and even
metal. If played at a really High speed these beats are also commonly found in Punk
and even speed metal music too.

For this lesson we're going to combined what we worked on in the two previous
lessons. Just so we can see what kinds of grooves we can make out of these quarter
 notes.

   Anyway, Lets get to it.

Aim #1: First, Get comfortable playing each rhythm through once. Try it with and without
the counting. Once your comfortable, then try playing it twice, three, four
times through (or more) without stopping.

Aim #2: Try for a range of tempos. Start out slow & openly (around 70/80 bpm's), then
Medium (100bpm) and fast up to (120/130 bpm's or higher). The objective is make
all the notes sound even, at any useful tempo.

Aim #3: Try playing each line of exercises without stopping. Make the transitions
between rhythms as smooth and seamless as possible. Once you feel comfortable,
try combining 2 lines, 3 lines etc etc. Until you can go through the entire
lesson. To take this another step further, you can try playing the exercises
randomly, this will help your reading and visualization skills greatly.
