Intro:

The following exercises will help develop your independence skills. The idea here is
to play accents with your foot in groups of three 16th notes. The only difference to
the previous lesson in this series, is that this time we're going to play Double Stokes
on the bass drum. This is great for your foot double and plus fairly musical too.

These grooves completely resolve themselves within a bar of 6/4 time.

This kind of feel is quite common in popular music though. You'll hear it in
everything from "Rage Against The Machine", "Tool", "Limp bizkit", "Dream Theater"
through to "Britney Spears", "Terry Bozzio" and "Dave Weckl", just to name a few.

During this study, we'll keep the Hi Hat playing straight 1/8 note time. It will
act as our 'guide' throughout these exercises, we'll also experiment a little with
your snare drum hand. This can be a great exercise to help break dependences you
might have between your main Hi Hat hand and your foot.

Aim #1: Get comfortable playing each rhythm through once, with & without the counting, if
you can do this, try playing it 2,3,4 times through or more without stopping.

Aim #2: Try for a range of tempos, Start out slowly (around 60 / 70 bpm's) then medium
(100bpm) and fast up to (130 / 140 bpm's or higher is you can). The objective is
make each note clean and evenly spaced.

Aim #3: Try playing each line of exercises without stopping, keeping it evenly spaced
the entire time. Next, Try 2 lines, then 3 lines and ultimately the entire
lesson from top to bottom. To take this another step further, you can try
playing the exercises randomly, this will help your reading and visualization
        skills greatly.

OK, so without writing out hundreds of patterns here. Now you should be able to see
some basic ideas for making your own 3 feel grooves..

 Good Luck !
