 Intro:
 ------

This is a continuation of a previous permutation lesson. Please read that before
 attempting to progress.

 In Brief:
 ---------

This series of studies focuses on the application & development of rhythms from a
set collection of note groupings. Here we are going to explore ways to use
these permutations as musical and sometimes complex grooves.

Here's the patterns we are focused on.

  Grouping #a #b #c #d #e

       Count: 1 e + a 1 e + - 1 - + a 1 e - a - e + a
    Sticking: r l r l r l r - r - r l r l - l - l r l

       Snare: o o o o o o o - o - o o o o - o - o o o

 Some Examples
 -------------

Example Pattern Codes Count / Sticking

     #1 AAAA ='s 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a
                                   R L R L R L R L R L R L R L R L

     #2 AABB ='s 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + - 4 e + -
                                   R L R L R L R L R L R - R L R -

     #3 CDCD ='s 1 - + a 2 e - a 3 - + a 4 e - a
                                   R - R L R L - L R - R L R L - L

     #4 AEDB ='s 1 e + a - e + a 3 e - a 4 e + -
                                   R L R L - L R L R L - L R L R -

ok, got the idea ?, if not go back to lesson one in this series..

Application Idea's Part #2 HiHat Grooves
 -------------------------------------------

Turning our 625 rhythms into interesting grooves is easy. We just play them on the
Hi hat and try and few bass drum patterns with them.

So here's some ideas to get you started, don't be afraid to come up with your own
variations... Experimentation is, as always, highly recommended !!.

  2) So here We'll play the Bass drum on counts 1 & 3, and play the snare on 2 & 4
     (if they exist)

Example based on the pattern "AABB"

                           A A B B

                   Count: 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + -
                Sticking: R L R L R L L L R L R L R L R
                  HI Hat: x x x x x x x x x x x x
                   Snare: o o
                  BDrums: o o

Here's a funky Example based on the pattern "CDAB"

                           C D A B

                   Count: 1 - + a 2 e - a 3 e + a 4 e + -

                Sticking: R R L R L L R L R L R L R
                  HI Hat: x x x x x x x x x x x
                   Snare: o o
                  BDrums: o o

We can also expand the bass drum part a little via adding a '3+'

                           C D A B

                   Count: 1 - + a 2 e - a 3 e + a 4 e + -

                Sticking: R R L R L L R L R L R L R
                  HI Hat: x x x x x x x x x x x
                   Snare: o o
                  BDrums: o o o

Lets try a 16th note bass drum part, something like this. Now were
      getting there.

                           C D A B

                   Count: 1 - + a 2 e - a 3 e + a 4 e + -

                Sticking: R R L R L L R L R L R L R
                  HI Hat: x x x x x x x x x x x
                   Snare: o o
                  BDrums: o o o o o

We can also expand the bass drum part a little via adding the Hihat foot.
So lets try a samba rhythm.

                           C D A B

                   Count: 1 - + a 2 e - a 3 e + a 4 e + -

                Sticking: R R L R L L R L R L R L R
                  HI Hat: x x x x x x x x x x x
                   Snare: o o
                  BDrums: o o o o
             Hi Hat Foot: x x

2b) To go a step beyond that. We can split our hands between the Hihat or Ride Cymbal,
to create even more interesting idea's from the same patterns.

Again, we'll play the Bass drum on counts 1 & 3 and play the snare on 2 & 4
      (if they exist)

Example based on the pattern "AABB"

                           A A B B

                   Count: 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + -
                Sticking: R L R L R L R L R L R L R L R
                    Ride: x x x x x x
                  Hi Hat: x x x x x x
                   Snare: o o
                  BDrums: o o

Here's a funky Example based on the pattern "CDAB"

                           C D A B

                   Count: 1 - + a 2 e - a 3 e + a 4 e + -

                Sticking: R R L R L L R L R L R L R
                    Ride: x x x x x
                  HI Hat: x x x x x x
                   Snare: o o
                  BDrums: o o

Well, that's more than enough to get you started. Now remember too work through as
many of the hand pattern combinations with these foot patterns as you possibly can...

Don't be afraid to try your own permutations.... Experiment!!

And then lets move onto Part #3, Fills
