 Intro:
 ------

This is the final part of a this permutation study. Please read & work through
Parts 1,2 & 3... before attempting to progress.

This series makes no attempt at giving you all the answers. It's only serves as a
starting point for the promotion of these idea's. I think you'll find just how useful
this type of study can be, with some further development on your part.

 In Brief:
 ---------

This series of studies focuses on the application & development of rhythms from a
set collection of note groupings. Here, we are going to explore some more advanced
ways of using these permutations as grooves on the drum set.

Here's the patterns we are focused on.

  Grouping #a #b #c #d #e

       Count: 1 e + a 1 e + - 1 - + a 1 e - a - e + a
    Sticking: r l r l r l r - r - r l r l - l - l r l

       Snare: o o o o o o o - o - o o o o - o - o o o

 Some Examples
 -------------

Example Pattern Codes Count / Sticking

     #1 AAAA ='s 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a
                                   R L R L R L R L R L R L R L R L

     #2 AABB ='s 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + - 4 e + -
                                   R L R L R L R L R L R - R L R -

     #3 CDCD ='s 1 - + a 2 e - a 3 - + a 4 e - a
                                   R - R L R L - L R - R L R L - L

     #4 AEDB ='s 1 e + a - e + a 3 e - a 4 e + -
                                   R L R L - L R L R L - L R L R -

ok, got the idea ?, if not go back to lesson one in this series..

Application Idea's Part #4 ADVANCED GROOVES
 ----------------------------------------------

Finally, via using any number of our 625 rhythms and applying ghost notes and some
interesting voicing ideas, the sky is just about the limit here... So lets aim for
  it.

I hope there's some ideas here to fire up your creative side.. .Don't be afraid to
come up with your own variations... Experimentation is, as always, highly
  recommended !!.

  4) Keeping a solid bass drum on counts 1 and 3 through out (to start with) and a
accented snare on 2 and 4 (if they exist), We'll borrow some ideas from the
previous fill exercise part 3, and apply some dynamics to them. We should be
able to make some pretty nice grooves, from just these simple patterns..

ok, For our first template, we'll play all the right hand notes (expect 2+4) on
the Hihat and play all left handed notes on the snare, at a very LOW volume.

Really aim to make the 2 and 4 Snare Accents stand out here, try not to let the
      ghost strokes overpower them.

Example based on the pattern "AABB"

                           A A B B

                   Count: 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + - 4 e + -
                Sticking: R L R L R L R L R L R R L R
                Dynamics: > >
                  HI Hat: x x x x x x
                   Snare: o o O o o o O o
                  BDrums: o o

Example based on the pattern "CCBB"

                           C C B B

                   Count: 1 - + a 2 - + a 3 e + - 4 e + -
                Sticking: R R L R R L R L R R L R
                Dynamics: > >
                  HI Hat: x x x x x x
                   Snare: o O o o O o
                  BDrums: o o

Example based on the pattern "CDEB"

                           C D E B

                   Count: 1 - + a 2 e - a - e + a 4 e + -
                Sticking: R R L R L L L R L R L R
                Dynamics: > >
                  HI Hat: x x x x
                   Snare: o O o o o o O o
                  BDrums: o o

2nd template. This time we'll again play all the right handed notes (expect 2+4) on
the Hihat. The left Hand will play "E" notes on the hi hat and "A" notes on the
snare, at a very LOW volume.

Example based on the pattern "AABB"

                           A A B B

                   Count: 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + - 4 e + -
                Sticking: R L R L R L R L R L R R L R
                Dynamics: > >
                  HI Hat: x x x x x x x x x x
                   Snare: o O o O
                  BDrums: o o

Example based on the pattern "CCDD"

                           C C D D

                   Count: 1 - + a 2 - + a 3 e - a 4 e - a
                Sticking: R R L R R L R L R L
                Dynamics: > >
                  HI Hat: x x x x x x
                   Snare: o O o o O o
                  BDrums: o o

Example based on the pattern "DCEA"

                           D C E A

                   Count: 1 e - a 2 - + a - e + a 4 e + a
                Sticking: R L L R R L L R L R L R L
                Dynamics: > >
                  HI Hat: x x x x x x x
                   Snare: o O o o O o
                  BDrums: o o

Well, I guess by now you can see the potential of the idea.. The possibilities are
truly endless. Try and work through as many of the hand pattern combinations as you can.
 Some will work, some won't.

Just don't be afraid to try your own permutations.... Just Experiment!!

    The End.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Kevin Picone

P.s. Let me known how you went ?.
