3 Note Feel Development (16th Notes) Studies By Kevin Picone |
Drum Rhythms that fall into a 3 feel are really common, right throughout popular music, not just drumming. They can heard on any instrument, in just about any band you care to mention. There particularly popular in fairly heavy bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit right through to bands like Dream Theater. All these guys really know how to make this feel groove. These Drum lessons work on the pattern in it's complete form, 6/4. In popular music it's normally used in an abbreviated fashion (4/4), but the idea is the same. It's great for learning Single Bass drum independence too. I've included two basic versions of this lesson, the first looks at getting a solid feel for the 3 pulse, via playing an accent on your bass drum every three 16th notes throughout the bar of 6/4. The second just extends the challenge somewhat via playing foot doubles. Great for building a faster single bass drum foot double. Not too mention hard work to keep it all together.. This might will take quite some time to work through. The objective here it to gain a feel for the 3 pulse, some of these ideas are quite musical while others are purely developmental.... Try them out, don't be afraid to experiment. If you would like to submit your own drum lessons please feel free to contact me. |
